Problem: Web Expression files conflict status when publishing.

Thanks so much for posting this solution, Guy Thomas.  I’ve often faced the problem where my Expression Web local site was in conflict with my remote site. Using this simple solution method you posted (with one slight addition) seemed to solve my issue.

image When I bring up my site in Expression Web and look at the publishing tab I get results that look like the snapshot to the left.  Notice that the [Modified] column on the local web site is blank.  Huh??  No date for when the file was last modified?  Obviously this causes a problem because EW thinks that all the files on the local site are changed and need to be published to the remote server (shown in the right pane.

Well, I can say for sure that the files on the local site were not changed, and I have no idea why EW wipes out the [Modified] field.  I do know that I’ve run into this problem several times and have never really found a way to fix it (other that sometimes to uninstall EW completely and perform a reinstall, followed by a complete publish from the remote site to the local site.  Not what I really want to spend my time doing.

So the little trick of deleting the EW temporary files seems to have done the job:

Site > Site Settings > Advanced > Delete Temporary Files.

One thing of note to complete this… When I first performed the above steps I saw no difference in the publishing view.  However, when I quite EW and then restarted it that’s when I noticed that my file publishing status was back in sync.
